Love Out Loud: For Refugees and Diversity & against Hate Speech!

By now, you’ll no doubt have noticed our Love Out Loud motto. We’d like to take the opportunity to present you the labore:tory sessions and activities taking place under this year’s motto. Stay tuned and get excited!

We’ve already told you about the return of the labore:tory this year. Here’s what to expect: we’re working on a playground for virtual and augmented reality, where you can test new technologies and explore digital installations. The aim of this area isn’t to just stimulate your senses, but to speak to you as creatives and activists and provide you with a space for networking. Through our Call for Participation we get to witness just how many participants with amazing ideas there are at the re:publica every year – participants who want to change and improve society with their projects. You come with wonderful initiatives, dedicating yourselves with so much commitment to more diversity in IT, helping refugees or countering the flood of online hate and abuse. You can find some of these initiatives on our Love Out Loud! panels in the labore:tory, where you can discuss and share your experiences and plans with them in a relaxed, living room atmosphere. The Community Corner offers you the chance of meeting with them separately, in a more personal setting, to connect, network and maybe even work on new ideas together. We look forward to seeing you and hearing the interesting discussions at the Love Out Loud! panels, every day at <3 in the labore:tory! We’d like to recommend the following sessions:

Love Out Loud! for #refugees

The Wefugees online community, the German-Syrian Adopt a Revolution initiative and the creators of the Konfetti app will be discussing their approaches, how a better concept of welcoming culture (German: Willkommenskultur) can be developed and what types of actions will be necessary in the future.

Monday, 8 May 2017: 14:45 to 15:45, English

Love Out Loud! against #hatespeech

What needs to happen to curb hatred and knee-jerk rage? The Flüchtlinge Willkommen (Refugees Welcome) online platform, the No Hate Speech Campaign and the Kleiner Fünf (Small Five) initiative adopt completely different approaches. Together they will be discussing solutions.

Love Out Loud! for #diversity

In their push to see more women in IT, Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK) and the Olabi Makerspace organise hackathons specifically for girls. Heart of Code feels that people who identify as female need their own hackspace.
