Carolyn is the Director of Collective Impact at the Digital Impact Alliance (DIAL). In this role, she helps coalesce the development community around scaling and increasing the impact and cost effectiveness of digital development investments. Prior to joining DIAL, Carolyn was the mHealth Senior Manager at the United Nations Foundation. As the manager of the United Nations Foundation’s mHealth portfolio, Carolyn oversaw the ICTs for Saving One Million Lives initiative in Nigeria that, in partnership with the Nigerian Ministries of Health and Communication Technology, developed a National Health ICT Strategic Framework and the Every Woman, Every Child Innovation Working Group Catalytic mHealth Grants program that supported 26 organizations in 15 countries to scale mHealth initiatives. Previously, Carolyn worked at the World Bank’s Innovation Labs, where she focused on identifying and supporting social enterprises to effectively deliver services to low income communities. She has also worked as a Private Sector Partnerships Specialist at USAID, focusing on mobile technology and maternal health partnerships such as the Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action and mPowering Frontline Health Workers. Prior experience includes the Inter-American Development Bank, a women’s health NGO in Delhi (Breakthrough), and as a Fulbright grantee in Jeonju, South Korea. Carolyn is an Adjunct Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), teaching a course on digital development and innovation uses of technology in emerging markets. She holds an M.A. in International Development and International Economics from SAIS and a B.A. in International Relations and Spanish from Tufts University.
